Waka Hire / Group Experiences

Te Waka Pounamu offer external groups the opportunity to experience waka ama through organised trips on either Whakaraupō (Lyttleton Harbour) or the Ōtākaro (Avon River).

This involves each group filling out the form below, confirming details, paying the associated hireage fees and/or arranging koha, and agreeing to abide by the club safety guidelines.

Please be aware that waka are only available outside of normal club training times, and require an adequately experienced steerer to lead the trip.  All steerers and trips will need to be approved by the Club Committee.  Club members who are interested in taking out groups still need these to be approved and properly organised to ensure the resources are available and that safety matters are taken care of.

General hireage fees are $150 per waka per session ($30 per person), with each canoe being able to fit 5 people, plus the steerer. This fee includes the waka, (hoe) paddles, lifejackets and other safety gear.

If your group requires a steerer, this will need to be arranged and may include a further fee or koha to cover this persons time and expertise.

Fees for Charitable Entities and community organisations, including kura/schools can be negotiated on a case by case basis to cater for particular needs - please just enquire below.

If you are interested in a waka experience, please fill in the form below and we will be in touch as soon as possible to arrange.
