Thinking about your next goal?  Need to plan your calendar year with fun waka ama events?

Te Waka Pounamu host two main regatta's each year:

  • The Whakaraupō Chase: an exciting challenge based long distance race, starting at Naval Point, and held in March;

  • The Pioke Pursuit: a unique pursuit styled sprint race, held in conjunction with Ngāti Wheke at Rāpaki every October.

We also support the paddling of the traditional Ngāi Tahu waka, Kōtukumairangi, at the Okains Bay Waitangi Day celebrations in February each year.

The club also participates and organises teams to participate in the following races:

  • Tuna Hoe, Lake Rotoiti (February)

  • Takapuna Cup, Auckland (February)

  • WANZ Long Distance Nationals, various locations (April or October)

  • Caroline Bay, Timaru (May)

  • Icebreaker Challenge, Dunedin (June)

  • Poor Knights, Northland (September)

  • Waka Te Tasman, Kaiteretere (November)

  • Te Waka o Aoraki Regional Sprints (December)

  • WANZ Sprint Nationals, Lake Karapiro (January)
