He waka eke noa;

He waka kōtuia kāhore e tukutukua kā mimira;

He moana pukepuke e ekekia e te waka;

He ihu waka, he ihu whenua;

Ka hoe kōtahi ki te tahatū o te raki;

Ko te pae tawhiti, whāia kia tata;

Ko te pae tata, whakamaua kia tina

Haumi e!

Hui e!

Taiki e!

We are in this waka together;

A waka that is interlaced so that it will not be separated;

That can navigate the choppiest oceans and safely reach the shore;

Paddle as one to the horizon; and seek out further horizons;

Cherish those you attain

Bind it, fix it, and affirm that which you hold dear.

Tō tātou moemoeā / Our Vision

Te Waka Pounamu is committed to the ongoing development of waka in Ōtautahi and to supporting those involved to reach their cultural, recreational and sporting potential.

Tō tātou uara me kā whāika / Our Values and Objectives

Te Waka Pounamu provides members with:

  • Whanaungatanga - opportunities for friendship, comradery and fun

  • Wairuatanga - opportunities to connect with and care for the natural environment

  • Tōhungatanga - opportunities to develop skills, train hard, compete and achieve

Kia hora te marino, kia whakapapa pounamu te moana,
kia tere te kārohirohi i mua i tōu huarahi

May peace be widespread, may the sea glisten like greenstone, and
may the shimmer of light guide you on your way

TWP runs a youth coaching program as well as coaching for adults of all experience levels.

There are events nationwide and internationally which caters to all experience levels.  Social, competitive and a great way to also travel with the whanau.

Club training sessions are a great way to meet new people, build your skills and keep fit all at the same time.  Waka are available for booking outside of club sessions.

Club training sessions in Summer are held Tuesday evenings at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 8am, dependent on weather.

Winter paddling is reduced to Saturday morning only, which will be communicated to club members each winter.

Regardless of experience, we welcome you.
